akg3761425 Srirangapatna (also: Shrirangapattana or Seringapatam), Karnataka, India, Daria Daulat Bagh (or Darya Daulat Bagh) summer palace (built 1784 under Tipu Sultan). Panorama, lower left section:. Tipu Sultan's procession to the Battle of Pollilur. Elephants and camels are seen at the front and rear as in Haidar's procession and there are musicians with a variety of instruments. Among the contingents of foot soldiers, there is an elite battalion with tunics displaying the tiger stripe (bubri) insignia. Significantly more cavalry are depicted, both Mysorean and French (the French force attached to the Mysore court fought alongside Tipu and Haidar in the 2nd Anglo Mysore War). The French wear white trousers, red jackets and black hats with white aigrettes and Mons Lally is depicted bringing up the rear with a white plume on his tricorn hat. Tipu is shown riding a horse, resplendent in a long, gilded coat and conversing with his cousin and commander-in-chief Qamaruddin who wears a green turban with a sarpech (ornament screwed onto the front). Late 18th/19th century. Wall fresco, tempera over lime plaster. Panoramic created by Sid Gamage. Photo by Benoy Behl courtesy of Archaeological Survey of India.
